RCE Saskatchewan Response to Yancoal Environmental Impact Study

Dear RCE Saskatchewan Colleagues,

This is to provide you with a quick update regarding the work of the RCE Saskatchewan Sustainable Infrastructure Working Group. As you are aware, Yancoal Canada Resources Company Limited (Yancoal) is engaged in the development of the Yancoal Southey Project, a proposed solution potash mine located 60 kilometres north of Regina. On April 13, 2016, the Yancoal Environment Impact Study (EIS) was released by the provincial government. Saskatchewan communities were provided the opportunity to review the document and provide responses before the deadline of June 6, 2016. Dr. Garth Pickard and Dr. Ray Ambrosi, Co-coordinators of the RCE Sustainable Infrastructure Working Group, have led the development of the RCE Saskatchewan response and finalized the RCE Saskatchewan submission. Thanks to both of you for this dedicated effort and hard work in meeting this deadline and to all those who assisted in contributing to the submission.

Attached you will find a copy of the final letter submitted to the Government of Saskatchewan which includes its Appendix containing supporting information. The RCE submission raises important questions that will hopefully be useful in guiding the Province's environmental assessment of the project and reviewing aspects of its overall sustainability.
