RCE Saskatchewan was proud to present a record number of awards at our 15th annual Education for Sustainable Development Recognition Awards event, co-hosted by the Prince Albert Historical Society on May 3, 2023. The ceremony was held at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre for the Arts.
Afternoon activities included a historical tour of downtown Prince Albert ending at the Historical Museum, where participants toured the Kistapinanihk/ Omanicye Makoca/ Tl’ogh tele The Gathering Place exhibit, featuring Prince Albert’s Indigenous history from 10,000 years ago to 1905. The exhibit was created under the guidance of Indigenous Knowledge Keepers from the Prince Albert Grand Council tribal groups and the Metis Nation and involved local schools and community members.

2022: Hosted by the Royal Saskatchewan Museum
After two years of virtual events, the 2022 event occured in-person on May 4, co-hosted by the Royal Saskatchewan Museum. Established in 1906, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum is home to the world’s largest T-Rex. Through its programs, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum fosters education and community development to support sustainability.
Awards were presented this year to 26 initiatives that further the UN Global Sustainable Development Goals, including such diverse groups as the University of Regina, Ducks Unlimited, the Prince Albert Historical Society, Saskatchewan Polytechnic, SaskOutdoors, Calling Lakes EcoMuseum and others.

Regina Public Schools received the Lyle Benko Future Generations Award for its “Ecole Centennial Land Based Learning” project for an outstanding Education for Sustainable Development in Kindergarten to Grade 12. The Department of Film, Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance at the University of Regina received the Dr. Garth Pickard Award for Post-Secondary Excellence in Education for Sustainable Development for its “Engaging Climate Change: Creativity, Community, Intervention” university course.
2021: Hosted by the Saskatchewan Environmental Society
The 13th Annual Event was hosted virtually by the Saskatchewan Environmental Society (SES) on May 12 2021. Founded in 1970, SES works towards environmental sustainability through public education, policy development, and community events. 2020: Hosted by the First Nations University of Canada
Originally planned to be held at the First Nations University of Canada Regina Campus, the 2020RCE Saskatchewan’s Education for Sustainable Development Recognition Event was instead held on May 13, 2020 as a virtual event in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic. 2019: Hosted by Hannin Creek Education & Applied Research Centre, Saskatchewan Polytechnic
With the theme Sustainable Partnerships: Nurturing the Next Generation of Land Stewards, the event took place on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at the Hannin Creek Education and Applied Research Centre on the shores of Candle Lake. Saskatchewan’s only boreal field station, the Centre is a partnership of Saskatchewan Polytechnic and the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation.
